Three years today
It seems like yesterday and forever ago and unreal and never. My baby boy, gone. Today I talked to another mama today, one who just lost her baby six weeks ago. First time I've done it and I don't think anyone will hire me as a counselor anytime soon. The last two days have been hard and I have not wanted to do them but I have done them, at least gone through the motions.

Political conversations with my son
The Boy and I were talking about the election yesterday.I was tryng to convince him voting matters even if you think all politicians are lyers- what lies they tell you matters. He asked who I would vote for, and I told him Obama, provided he got the Dem nomination. He asked what if he didn't, and I said I didn't know. I don't like Hillary. I spoke of things I would not have spoken about with him a year ago, like Bill's affair. When did this happen?

On the line, again
So here it is, February, and I hung up the laundry today. I think this is a record. if I look for a silver lining- and sometimes one must as an antidote to curling up in a ball and giving up-as we increase global warming by using up our our fossil feuls, we'll have to use less energy heating our homes and drying our clothes.
In the midst of this I made a mad purge of HRH's closet, and did something I hope will help her laundry situation-I declared her dress up bin no more, and she now has to wash, dry,and hang her dress up.Why would I inflict such cruelty on my child? Simple- I was sick of going in and finding her laundry- that which wasn't on the floor- thrown at her dress up bin. It had to stop.

Breathing room
This week has been so busy. i had nowhere I needed to be today ( except work later) so I caught up on laundry, hung some woolens out,did mending, and took time to talk to The Boy while he did laundry. I thi nk I need to build in more days like this.

Ah spring
When the cries oflittle children beating the tar out of each other fill the air. It's beautiful but also a full moon. Yesterday, after much begging, I took the kids, along with The Boy's BFF and Neighbor Boy (16)to the Hylebos Wetlands. They did not comport themselves well; anyone who wnet there looking for serenity would be sadly dissapointed. Then to a movie- but my OLDEST two whine and cry, not because they don't want to see the movie, but I think more than anything, because it wasn't their idea. We come out and the moon is full ( or at least mostly there). Today The Boy starts a new guitar teacher, and hopefully will not throw a fit.
Things that don't bug me ( and a few that do)
Junk food
If my kids wear underwear or put their shoes on the correct feet ( big deal to DH).
Shoes in the house. In fact, please, wear your shoes in my house instead of standing in my doorway taking them off.
Reading or occasionally watching TV while eating supper. Nachos and Star Trek are a winning combination!
If people drink in front of their kids or let them taste alcohol.
babies without hats and kids without coats.
I actually have issues about lots of other stuff. I often correct other adults' grammar before realising I've done so (my kids do too actually!) and I would rather get somewhere late than let my kids go out the door with uncombed hair. That drives me NUTS!
Un cut hair though-it boggles my mind when other parents talk about their kids having meltdowns during haircuts. Just.don't.cut.it.
Some kiddie book reviews
First, I am very excited that there is a sequel to Mo Willem's Knuffle Bunny. Knuffle Bunny Too: A Case of mistaken Identity is full of the same photo/drawing combos, humour and insight that made the original Kuffle Bunny so irresistable. I think my favorite part is the drawing of the Princess Pigeon. Everyone in the family was excited by this book!
Don't tell I told, but the older two will yank new Mo Willems from their little brother's hand to read it.
Captain Raptor and the Space Pirates by Kevin O'Malley and Patrick O'Brien The DM says "little boys of every age and gender will love this book". This comic book style story has space going pirate dinosaurs- need I sya more?

Still trying to trust my kids, still not easy
I think I'm really split on this. I want to trust my kids, I want them to be free and self directed, but when I try to let go things fall apart and I tighten the reins again to try to restore order and my sanity. I try to let go when it comes to school stuff;it works some, other ways it doesn't. I wonder what God wants me to learn from all this. OK, I don't wonder, I pretty much know, but it's a damn hard lesson to learn.

Guess who's 9?
Happy Birthday, my lovely princess.
She got roller blades, roller skates, bike helmet, bike lock, stretchy horror monsters, and her brother's old GBA. She's at the Gargoyle store with daddy now!
Bragging on the Boy
Here's the big brag. I work MOPS at my church two Wedsnesday mornings a month. Andrew goes to class (not mine!), Olivia helps out with two year olds, and I had let Matthew bring his Gameboy to occupy himself. A few months into the year the teacher of the church school's preK stopped me to tell me how much the kids love Matthew. Huh? He had been quietly volunteering all this time. I hear that the kids now calls the days he is there "Matthew day". His best friend's dad says he's the most polite kid they ever host and he frequently tries to get C to be more respectful to his dad. (yes I wonder what child really goes over there sometimes). He's giving Livvie his Gameboy for her birthday and most of the games (He did get a DS for Christmas!
