Another good thing about homeschooling
On a sunny day, you're not stuck inside, even if you do have bookwork. They're doing Latin there. The year is over. We ended yesterday, doing placement test for Calvert math; the first tests that have ever challanged my kids. I find that promising. I just hope it stays nice and my horrid summer cold goes away soon so we can enjoy the free time.

Klaatu Barada Nicto
I took this last week at the Experience Music Project/SciFi Museums All Access Night.Bar none, the SFM is one of my favorite places to go in the Seattle area. I am most entranced by the big screen spacedock viewport. It pains me to think I won't see a spaceport in my lifetime. I was promised a world where I and my children would have the solar system at least, though the stars are out of reach.

Winding down, reconfiguring
Our school year is winding down, and at least one kid is finishing a subject per day now.It has remained rainy though, and not only I but the Boy are dreading the idea of rainy weather with no schedule. I have determined we are getting too sucked in by the screen- between the games and having both the entire Voyager and Northern Exposure. I have determined that I will make them work for their screen time-if it's too rainy for walks or the park, they will get increments of game and TV time interspersed with board games and reading together.
I still dread it though. I just want it to be sunny and for them to play outside.

Two days ago Turbo read his first book that no one had read to him before- "Today i will Fly" by Mo Willems. He sure did! My last baby reading is bittersweet.Labels: reading
Read this blog
I do have some exciting stuff of my own to post, but for now read this blog entry by LoneStarMa. As a Christian who believes ever hitting a child is wrong, I thank her for writing it.http://lonestarmablog.blogspot.com/2008/06/more-on-religion-and-child-abuse.html

So this was the plan
Yesterday was a homeschool park date at a park three miles away. Since it could be walked mostly on a trail, I decided we would walk it and the DM would pick us up on the way home. We did it, I didn't get as tired as I thought, and I felt good about both saving gas and the exercise. So, today it's pouring rain, I'm eating nachos and the kids are planning to watch a movie. So much for my well laid plans.
