Slate article on spanking

http://www.slate.com/id/2158310

You all know, I look for any chance to get out the "no-spanking" message. I hope to see spanking outlawed in our country sooner rather than later.

I think the final line in this article helps to sum it up: But then parents have near infinite amounts of power over their kids.

Be sure to follow the links at the bottom, too!

Cool article. I am totally against spanking and do not do it - although I am sometimes tempted. I can certainly see where there is ambivalence about a law. I am for a ban, but I do know spankers who I consider to be good, diligent parents who believe that spanking is the right thing to do and, although spanking is definitely where I draw the line, I am not convinced that their rare and disciplined spanking is more harmful than my frustrated yelling at times. Being anti-violence, I do support a ban but I can see both sides, in a way. Still, it's silly to have a law that prevents hitting adults and have it be okay to hit kids.
