Monsters in the chocolate factory

Yesterday we took a trip tohttp://www.theochocolate.com in Seattle. They are the only organic roasters of cacoa beans in the US. The $5 per person tour fee may seem steep when you've got three kids, but the large volumes of samples make you feel like you get your money's worth. Of course, no one gets out of a chocolate shop without buying- I had to get a $9 (yeesh!!!) bag of enrobed dark cocoa nibs. Yummalicious!

Some Recent Reading

I recently finished The Last Mimzy Stories. Originally published as The Best of Henry Kuttner, it starts with the classic Mimsy Were the Borogroves and showcases some of Kuttner's best speculative fiction. A must read!

The Boy has been reading Diane Duane's Young Wizards series. We had both just read a Star Trek novel by Duane, Dark Mirror, and were surprised to note some crossover. Always fun!

We are entering the Pottermania zone

and will probably be there for about the next month.

Awwwww

A few nights ago, HRH came into the bathrrom while I was bathing. She related that she had been reading to baby Charlotte ( her "doll who has become real") I said I was sure baby Charlotte liked that and she repsonded "one thing I have learned from you is that reading draws mother to child"

A few days later, when I had a night of restless sleep that had me sleeping several different [places ( turns out I was sick) The Boy came out when I was in Sleeping Place #3, The couch and tucked his special blanket around me and his Puppy under my arm.

8 things about me (part 1)

1) I was raised in Pennsylvania Amish Country. Our main forms of entertainment were cow tipping and driving past the firehalls on Bingo nights and shouting "Bingo!" in the open doors.

2) I was raised by my grandmother, though my mother lived with us. She was severely bi-polar ( though her diagnosis changed several times, with the times). I feel if her illness had been better managed, she'd be alive today.

3) I have been Lutheran all my life. If I were not hooked into the great church I am now, I'd be a Liberal Quaker, as they resonate with me so much, especially in peace and justice as faith issues.

4) I am really in love with classical education. In a lot of ways, it's what I also wanted. Also, I am a bit of a snob so it appeals to me for that reason.

Wow, it's been hard enough coming uo with 4 things interesting about me. I'll save the rest for another day.
